The concrete truck arrives on the job site. The driver mixes and discharges the concrete.

Concrete placement is much quicker because of this machine, a concrete power buggy. The faster the concrete is placed, the more time we have to work with it.

This power buggy is used in place of wheelbarrows making the work much faster, easier and efficient.

It takes the place of about four men on wheelbarrows.

Here we are raking the concrete out.

A 2”x4” is used as a “screed” to level out the concrete surface.

A bull float is used to smooth and level the surface.

Expansion or control joints are cut to length. These are put in specific areas to prevent cracking due to ground movement.

Control joints are set into the concrete.

Concrete is placed in footprints and low spots.

The surface is then bull floated again to trowel out the holes and uneven areas until it is flush from the coping to the formwork.

The expansion joints are also floated in with the bull float.

As the concrete sets up (hardens), we hand trowel the areas that need to be flush and level that cannot be done with the big bull float.

We trowel the surface once more as it sets up to ensure there are no imperfections in the surface.

At the right time, the concrete is set up just enough to apply the finish.  Here it is the swirl texture.

The edge is rounded with an edger tool.

This is a completely finished section. Notice how perfectly flat the surface is from the coping to the formwork.

A 1/8” wide saw cut is required in large areas such as this 14 foot wide section.  The cut is perpendicular to the expansion joints and is installed to prevent and control cracking.
